1- Who can take the proficiency exam?
Students who are entitled to study in one of our university's English-medium departments and/or who have completed the English Preparatory Program and failed.
2- I got into your university this year. After completing my registration, do I need to register separately for the English Proficiency Exam?
Yes it is necessary. Before the exam, you need to fill out the online Pre-Application Form, which asks you to tick whether you will take the exam or not. If you ticked "I will participate", you will be placed in an exam hall for the Proficiency Exam. If you marked "I do not agree", your name will not be included in the exam lists.
3- What is the content of the English Proficiency Exam?

4- Can I take the English Proficiency Exam without my ID?
No, you can’t. Students who do not have an ID card are not accepted for the exam. Students must bring their ID card (ID, passport (for foreign students) and Alanya University student certificate).
5- What documents do I need to have with me while taking the English Proficiency Exam?
Students must be at university on the announced day, time and place to take the exam and have their identity documents and the necessary materials for the exam (pencil, eraser, sharpener, tip, etc.). Students are obliged to know and comply with the rules stated in the exam instructions, which are announced verbally and/or in written
6- Is there a make-up for the Proficiency Exam?
Students who do not take the English Proficiency Exam for any reason will not be given a make-up exam.
7- What happens if I don't take the proficiency exam?
English Preparatory education is mandatory for students who do not voluntarily take the proficiency exam.
8- What is the passing score for the Proficiency Exam?
Students who score 60 or above in the English Proficiency Exam are entitled to enroll in their departments.
9- I passed the Proficiency Exam, what should I do now?
Students who pass the Proficiency Exam enroll in their own departments without taking a preparatory class.
10- Can I learn my Proficiency Exam score?
The Proficiency Exam score is not announced. The results are announced on the announcements section of our website on the date specified in the academic calendar. Only you can find out if you are successful or not. It will simply appear as “pass” or “fail” on your transcript.
11- What should I do if I do not get a passing grade in the Proficiency Exam?
Students who cannot get a passing grade from the exam are obliged to study Preparatory School for 1 year. Students who want to improve their English by their own means and take the proficiency exam next year can request a registration freeze. A student who does not receive a passing grade at the end of the first year is entitled to one more year. A student who does not receive a passing grade in the proficiency exams held for 2 academic years will be dismissed from the university.
12- I have enrolled in the optional preparatory program. Do I need to take the proficiency exam?
No. Students who enroll in the optional English preparatory program are not required to take the proficiency exam. It is sufficient for them to take the placement test conducted during the first week of classes.
13. What is the Optional Preparatory Program?
The optional preparatory program is a one-year program that students enrolled in Turkish-medium departments can choose to improve their English language skills. It is not mandatory and is entirely at the student’s choice. 14. Is the Optional English Preparatory Program paid?
Yes, it is. Students who wish to attend the Optional Preparatory Program, including those admitted with a full scholarship or 50% scholarship, are required to pay the preparatory education fee of their respective program in order to be accepted into the program.
15. How can I apply for the Optional Preparatory Program?
Students who want to attend the Optional English Preparatory Class can register by submitting a petition to the School of Foreign Languages before the course registration period specified in the academic calendar. Click here for the sample petition required to apply. Students must submit the signed petition to the School of Foreign Languages Secretariat. The submission deadline will be announced on the School of Foreign Languages website.
16. Can I withdraw after registering for the Optional Preparatory Program?
Yes. Students who have registered for the Optional English Preparatory Program may withdraw only during the add-drop week indicated in the academic calendar by submitting a petition to the School of Foreign Languages. Click here for the sample withdrawal petition.
17- What is the Placement Exam?
It is an exam held to determine the level of students who will study in the preparatory class at Alanya University and to place them in classes appropriate to their level. Students who cannot pass the English Proficiency Exam must take this exam before starting the preparatory classes. Students who do not take the exam start preparatory class education at the beginner level.
18- Who can take the Placement Exam?
Students who have newly registered for English programs at Alanya University at the beginning of the relevant academic year and students who have registered in the previous academic year but did not receive a passing grade from Alanya University English Preparatory Program must take the placement test before starting the preparatory class. In this online exam, the level is determined automatically and a second exam is not held outside the announced dates.
19- What parts does the Placement Exam consist of?
The Placement Exam consists of listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, writing and speaking sections. As a result of this exam, students are placed in elementary or pre-intermediate levels depending on their English level. Click here to get a detailed information for the Placement Exam.
20- What happens if I don't take the English Placement Test?
Students who do not take the Placement Test voluntarily start their preparatory education from the beginner (A1) level.
21- How long does the English Preparatory Program last?
The education period of the SFL Preparatory Program is at least 1 (one) and at most 2 (two) academic years.
22- When can I find out which class I will study in?
Students' classes are announced at the end of orientation program held by the School of Foreign Languages on the first day of the academic year.
23- What is the content of the assignments and projects I am responsible for during my education?
The content of the assignments and projects are announced to students verbally and in written form by the instructor conducting the course at the beginning of the year. You can access this information from the classroom calendar and/or from the announcements section on our website after the academic year begins.
24- What happens if I don't submit my assignments and projects on time?
It will be announced both in written and verbally which students will submit which assignment and when and under what conditions by the intructors during the academic year. Students are expected to submit their homework according to these rules. If homework submissions are not completed on time and assignments and/or projects are submitted late, they will not be evaluated.
25- What happens if I miss quizzes or in-class assessments?

26- How is evaluation done in the Preparation Program of the School of Foreign Languages?
The English Preparatory Program at the School of Foreign Languages is completed in two stages: passing the in-term assessments and passing the Proficiency Exam. Click for details.
27- What are the criteria for success in the English Preparatory Program?
Students whose academic year grade point average is 75 and above and who meet the 70% attendance requirement successfully complete the English Preparatory Programme and are eligible to enroll in the department.
Students whose academic year grade point average is below 75 and/or who fail to meet the 70% attendance requirement must take the English Proficiency Exam at the end of the year. Students who get a passing grade (60) and above in the proficiency exam successfully complete the preparatory programme.
28- What are the prerequisites for taking the English Proficiency Exam? What kind of exam is the English Proficiency Exam? When is it done? Who can take it?
Students whose academic year grade point average is below 75 and/or who fail to meet the 80% attendance requirement are required to take the End-of-Year English Proficiency Exam. Students who achieve a passing score (60 or above) on the Proficiency Exam successfully complete the Preparatory Program. Click here for details regarding the end-of-year success grade.
29- Do I have to attend classes while continuing the Preparatory Program?
Yes. In face-to-face education, students must attend at least 70% of the lessons.
30- What happens if I fail due to absenteeism?
Students who fail due to absenteeism may attend classes and take process assessment exams; however, even if their end-of-year grade point average is 75 or above, they are required to take the End-of-Year Proficiency Exam in order to successfully complete the Preparatory Program.
31- Can I object to my exam result?
The students may object to the exam result to the School Directorate with a petition on the School of Foreign Languages home page within the first five (5) business days following the announcement of the grades. Any objections made by the student regarding the exam results after the end of the objection period will not be processed. Click here to submit an exam result appeal petition.
32- Is it possible if I submit my objection via mail?
Objection petitions must have wet signatures. However, for objections to be made while out of town, the original versions of the petitions scanned and sent via e-mail within the specified period can be sent by mail. Click Here for detailed information.
33- What is the proficiency exemption through external examination?
Students who meet the requirements specified in the English Proficiency Guidelines through an external exam and score at the desired level are exempt from the English Preparatory Program and begin education in their departments. Click for detailed information.
34- What are the exam scores required from which external exams to be exempt from the English Preparatory Program?

The exams specified in the table above are considered valid for exemption from the English Preparatory Program.
35- How many hours of lessons are there in the English Preparatory program?
- At the Beginner Level: There is a total of 24 course hours per week, consisting of PIS 101 – 20 hours and PRW 101 – 4 hours.
- At the Pre-Intermediate Level: There is a total of 20 course hours per week, consisting of PIS 101 – 16 hours and PRW 101 – 4 hours.

37- What kind of support can I receive while I study in the English Preparatory class?
The consultancy system continues to operate at specified times throughout the period. Students can also have Office hours with their advisors or instructors during the period.
38- What kind of activities are carried out in the English Preparatory program?
We carry out extracurricular activities with our selected and/or volunteer students at designated times after class.
39- How can I reach instructors outside the course? How can I ask my questions outside the course?
You can make an appointment by sending an e-mail to the e-mail address or visit the instructor during office hours.
40- Which health reports are valid?
Excuses that are not approved by the SFL Department Board or health reports that are not obtained from a full-fledged health institution will not be accepted.
41- Will my scholarship be cut off if I am not successful in the English Preparatory class?
Scholarships/discounts of those who fail to complete the English Preparatory Program in 1 year will be terminated. Students who successfully complete the English Preparatory Program at the end of the second academic year will be granted tuition fee exemption scholarships/discounts again if they enroll in undergraduate programs.
42- Which books are used in the English Preparatory Program?
The books to be used in the Preparatory Program are determined by the academic board at the beginning of each academic year and announced to the students at the School of Foreign Languages Orientation Program
43- How can I obtain English Preparatory Program course books?
Sales links of the books used in the preparatory program are announced on the SFL website. Students order the books they need to buy according to their level. Books are sent to School of Foreign Langauges.
44- Do I need a book in case of a pandemic or any quarantine situation?
The books used in the preparatory program were selected to be compatible with distance education. Books will continue to be used if education continues remotely due to the pandemic or any other reasons.
45- What should I do if I lose my book while attending the English Preparatory program?
Providing the designated books is mandatory and is the student's responsibility. It is not possible for students who do not buy books to follow the course. The student is responsible for retrieving lost books.
46- How can I access the student handbook?

47- Who can I ask for help when I need extra material on topics or subjects that I do not understand?
For this issue, advisors will help the student during counseling hours to determine which extra materials are suitable for his or her education.
48- Do I have a chance to change the class where I attend?
The request of the student who comes to the advisor requesting to change classes due to a compelling reason is evaluated by the academic board and the evaluation result is shared with the student within two weeks.
49- Does summer school open every summer?
When the sufficient number of students is reached, a summer school is opened for the students who fail the end-of-term Proficiency Exam can attend. In summer school, the academic calendar is followed and the course schedule is announced to students on the website.
